As of the end of August, Ukraine has had 14bn cu.m. in its underground gas storage facilities, Oleksiy Chernyshov, board chairman of Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz, has told the news telethon.
"We have actually reached the figure of 14bn cu.m. The planned target of 14.7bn cu.m. (by the start of the heating season) will be met and even exceeded," he said.
Chernyshov noted that the target would allow sending extra volumes for electricity generation. Ukraine plans to cpver the heating season without gas imports.
Ukraine has 12 underground storage facilities with a total design capacity of 31bn cu.m.
According to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, as of 18 August, the gas storage facilities of the EU countries were 90% full, almost three months ahead of schedule.
