US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin said that Ukraine will soon receive M1 Abrams tanks from the United States.
He said this at the opening of a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine's defense, according to Yevropeyska Pravda.
"Since our last meeting, the United States has provided additional security assistance packages totaling more than $2bn. These packages include urgently needed air defence, ammunition, and mine action equipment... And I am pleased to announce that the M1 Abrams tanks that the United States previously pledged will soon be arriving in Ukraine," Austin said.
Last week, National Security and Defence Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov said that more than 10 Abrams tanks would arrive in Ukraine soon. He did not specify the exact number of tanks.
In early August, the United States officially approved the delivery of the first batch of Abrams tanks to Ukraine. In January, it was reported that the US could provide Ukraine with 30-50 Abrams tanks.
