President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an evening video address on 6 November that elections in Ukraine are not on the cards.

"...Rocking the boat with anything politically divisive must stop. We must decide that now is the time of defence, the time of battle, on which the fate of the state and people depends, and not the time for leaks, which only Russia expects from Ukraine. I believe that it is not the right time for elections," he said.

Zelenskyy noted that "in wartime, when there are many challenges, it is absolutely irresponsible to somehow... lightly and playfully throw the topic of elections into society."

According to the president, if it is necessary to "put an end to a political dispute and continue to work only in unity, then there are structures in the state that are able to put an end to it and give the society all the necessary answers".

Recently, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Zelenskyy was weighing the pros and cons of holding presidential elections in spring 2024.

Last month, the president said that he was ready to run for office only if the elections were held during the war.
