Unless the West's attitude towards Russia changes and the aggressor country undergoes transformation, in 15-20 years the world will see a new "axis of evil", which will include some European countries in addition to North Korea, China, Iran and Russia.
Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, made this statement in a speech at the Halifax International Security Forum.
"The world is in turbulence. Geopolitical competition between Washington and Beijing is intensifying. There are more and more messages about a new world order, a multipolar world, etc... In a broader sense, it is about the struggle between democracy and tyranny. Russia is a threat to Ukraine, China is the main threat to the United States, and the China-Russia-Iran alliance is a challenge for the whole world," Danilov said.
He stressed that the West should give a "tough response" to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"There is no need to be afraid of it, as Ukraine has proved. Instead, a tough response is needed from the democratic world, as Russia understands only the language of force," Danilov added.
According to him, Ukraine is concerned that discussions have intensified among some partners about the need for negotiations, consultations, meetings with the Russians and a ceasefire. "All this is due to a rudimentary fear of Russia," Danilov added.
