Ukraine has a military plan for the next year. The country has already liberated 50% of the territory occupied during the full-scale invasion. The state also has a strategic goal of reaching the 1991 borders. Defence Minister Rustem Umerov said this on Fox News.
"This is our land, we are defending ourselves. Firstly, we have a strategic goal to reach the 1991 borders. We have a military goal for 2024, defence planning, our defence operations, counter-attack and offensive operations. We are fine. We continue to restore the territories," he told the journalist.
According to Umerov, the Defence Forces have already overcome two of the three Russian defence lines and are now between the second and third lines. The Ministry of Defence later clarified this statement: "The Ukrainian military in certain areas of the frontline are located and conduct combat operations between the 2nd and 3rd defence lines. The names of specific areas where this is done and the stage of specific operations will be reported by the relevant units in accordance with communication protocols."
When asked what exactly Umerov would consider a victory, he said that strategically, it would be the 1991 borders, including Crimea, Donbas and the Black Sea.
Failure to achieve this goal would mean the defeat of democracy around the world, the minister said. He added that Russia's strategic goal is to destroy Ukraine and Ukrainians.
