The National Security and Defence Council's Centre for Countering Disinformation (CCD) has warned of a fake news campaign against the country's top leadership. According to the centre, foreign media are planning to publish a series of disinformation articles against Ukraine's military and political leadership.
The publications will be on English-language resources. They are being prepared by foreign journalists with experience of working in the Russian Federation, in particular at the beginning of Putin's rule.
"The purpose of such actions is to split Ukrainian society," the statement said.
Yusov, a representative of the Defence Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, told Hromadske that the Russians plan to involve experts, political scientists, opinion leaders, and journalists who have a certain background in Russia.
"The materials may be different. It's not just one material, it's a series, and they may differ from each other. But, in particular, we are talking about specific names of the military and political leadership of our country," the intelligence representative said.
Yusov added that the outbreak of such a disinformation wave is planned "at an extremely important period" when partners are making key decisions to support Ukraine.
