Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, who holds the G7 presidency this year, said at the summit that Tokyo is ready to provide about $4.5 billion in additional funds to help war-torn Ukraine in its reconstruction efforts, Kyodo reports.
The parties also issued a joint statement following the Group of Seven summit. Among other things, they announced their intention to impose restrictions on Russian diamonds and strengthen other sanctions against Russia by 1 January 2024.
- In early November, the Japanese Foreign Ministry stated that the G7's support for Ukraine would not depend on the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
- On November 20, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that Japan would provide Ukraine with €160 million for economic recovery projects. Ukraine is interested in establishing joint ventures, especially in the manufacturing industry.
