Sweden has announced a new humanitarian aid package for Ukraine worth SEK 1.4 billion (over USD 133 million).
The announcement was made at a joint press conference by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Johan Forssell, Sweden Postsen reports.
"This is a comprehensive winter package," Kristersson said.
According to the Swedish officials, the funds will primarily be used to support energy supply, heating, food, housing and healthcare systems.
It is also known that 900 million kronor will go to the World Bank's Ukraine Recovery, Rehabilitation and Transformation Trust Fund (URTF).
Another SEK 300 million will go to the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) fund, SEK 100 million will be distributed through the UN Food Programme, SEK 75 million will be allocated to UNESCO for the construction of shelters in schools and preschools, and SEK 25 million will be distributed through the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB).
How Sweden supports Ukraine
- On 10 December, Ukraine and Sweden discussed further cooperation in supporting veterans. In particular, they focused on the implementation of a new system of transition from military service to civilian life.
- Earlier, Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umerov met the Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, General Mikael Bjuden. They discussed the localisation of defence production in Ukraine. In addition, it was reported that Ukraine and Sweden are discussing the potential supply of Gripen fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In early November, Archer artillery systems arrived in Ukraine from Sweden.
- In November, the Swedish government announced that it would provide Ukraine with another €8.7 million as part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative.
