President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who is on a visit to Ukraine.
According to the president's website, Zelenskyy and Sikorski discussed further cooperation in the defence sector and the key needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, the creation of joint ventures, as well as the possibility of purchasing Polish weapons that have proven their worth on the battlefield.
They also discussed the preparation of the next meeting at the level of advisers to the leaders of states on the implementation of the Peace Formula and the Global Peace Summit.
They agreed that bilateral relations should receive a new impetus, and all problematic issues should be resolved "in a spirit of mutual trust and respect".
"We hope to open a new page in our relations. We are very strong neighbours with a common history. We are glad to see you here. I hope that the Prime Minister of Poland will also find an opportunity to come to Ukraine at the earliest opportunity," Zelenskyy said.
What are the "problematic issues" between Ukraine and Poland?
· The Polish blockade of checkpoints for trucks. Thus, on 18 December, Polish carriers resumed protests at the largest checkpoint, Yahodyn-Dorohusk, on the Ukrainian-Polish border. They were joined by farmers. The action is expected to last for several months. Meanwhile, since 6 November, Polish entrepreneurs have been protesting in front of the Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska and Krakowiec-Korczowa border crossings.
· The day before, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister of Community, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov held his first meeting with the newly appointed Minister of Infrastructure of Poland, Dariusz Klimczak, in Warsaw. The ministers also discussed the problem of unblocking the border.
