On 2 January, a total of 57 combat engagements took place. In the Avdiyivka sector, the defenders continue to hold back the Russians, who keep trying to encircle Avdiyivka. Eight Russian attacks were repelled in the areas of Novobakhmutivka, Berdychiv, Avdiyivka and another 16 attacks in the areas of Pervomayske and Nevelske over the last day.
Southeast of Novobakhmutivka, the defenders improved their tactical position, said General Staff spokesman Dmytro Lykhoviy during a telethon. In the Kherson sector, the defenders are holding a foothold on the left bank of the Dnipro River and continue to expand it.
"The enemy is suffering losses and keeps trying to drive our units out of their positions. It made nine assault actions yesterday, they were unsuccessful," he said.
In the Kupyansk sector, Ukrainian troops repelled seven attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka. In the Bakhmut sector, Ukrainian troops repelled six attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Klishchyivka and Andriyivka in Donetsk Region.
In the Zaporizhzhya sector, the defenders repelled an enemy attack near Robotyno and advanced in the area of Verbove, forcing the enemy to withdraw from some positions.
In total, the Russians launched 89 missile and 72 air strikes yesterday, including by drones, and fired 48 times from multiple rocket launchers at military and civilian positions.
