There will be no collapse in Ukraine's energy grid, even if Russia takes advantage of the cold snap to launch new massive attacks on power facilities, according to Ukrenergo board chairman Volodymyr Kudrytskyy.

"This will not be the first time. The Russians chose these particular periods before their massive attacks. We have already been through this about 20 times. This will certainly create additional problems for us. But I am sure that it will be a matter of the duration of possible interruptions in power supply due to damage to some facilities, but there will be no collapse in the energy system. The enemy will not achieve this," Kudrytskyy said.

He added that low temperatures are generally a test for any power system. Kudrytskyy named the conditions necessary to get through the difficult period without outages. First, all power units of power plants that are currently undergoing repairs must be brought back online. The second is to fully utilise the 1,700 MW of technical import capacity that Ukrenergo opened at the end of last year.

Kudrytskyy added that Ukrainians can help the power system and power engineers by using electricity sparingly in the morning.
