Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that new US aid to Ukraine could potentially help avoid a direct confrontation between NATO and Russia, which would involve US troops. In an interview with ABC News, he said that time is running out for Congress to approve new military aid.
The cost of dealing with the chaos in the world that will arise if Ukraine loses will be significantly higher than the cost of supporting Ukraine now. Russian victory would also send a message to other US and allied adversaries.
However, Kuleba has promised that Ukraine will never give in to Russia.
"Even if we run out of weapons, we will fight with shovels, because the existence of the nation is at stake for Ukraine," he said during a conversation with a journalist.
Kuleba excluded the possibility of any peace talks with the regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin until Ukraine gains a much stronger position on the battlefield.
