President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will submit a bill on multiple citizenship to the Verkhovna Rada. Foreigners who are ethnically Ukrainians from all countries except the aggressor country, as well as those who are defending Ukraine, will be able to obtain a Ukrainian passport. He said this in an address on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Unity.
The video was recorded near St Sophia Cathedral, where the Act of Unification was proclaimed 104 years ago. The President said that today the unity of Ukrainians covers not only both banks of the Dnipro River, but both hemispheres of the Earth.
"In every corner of which, on 24 February, 'I am Ukrainian' was heard. I’m Ukrainian. It was heard on all continents where our people live. Those who, with the outbreak of a full-scale war, regardless of their place of residence and birth, affirmatively said "I am Ukrainian"," he said.
This is a multi-million diaspora and lobbyists for Ukrainian interests in the world.
"All those who have not forgotten their roots and do not let the world forget about Ukraine. All those in whose veins flows Ukrainian blood and in whose chest beats a free heart," Zelenskyy said.
The President said that after many years of waiting, they would finally be able to become Ukrainians with a passport.
"Today, I am introducing a key bill to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that will allow us to adopt comprehensive changes to the legislation and introduce the institution of multiple citizenship and allow all ethnic Ukrainians and their descendants from around the world to have our citizenship, of course, except for citizens of the aggressor countries," he said.
Foreign volunteers fighting for Ukraine will also be able to obtain a Ukrainian passport.
