Australia will contribute $32.4 million to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities through the International Fund for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has tweeted.
He thanked Australia and its Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the contribution. Zelenskyy added that "Australia demonstrates a commitment to the defence of freedom, life and international order, exactly as all free nations on all continents should demonstrate."
"We will never forget Australia and its support," he said.
The Australian government's website reported that on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia's brutal full-scale invasion, the government will provide a grant directly supporting the purchase of priority military equipment.
The International Fund for Ukraine is administered by the UK Ministry of Defence. It uses contributions from international partners to purchase priority military equipment for Ukraine and to ensure a continuous supply of military support - lethal and non-lethal - until 2024 and beyond.
"We stand with Ukraine, supporting its brave people and defending a fundamental principle - the right of every sovereign nation to be secure within its borders and to determine its own future," said Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
