President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed the law "On Regulation of the Turnover of Plants of the Cannabis Genus for Medical, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Purposes to Create Conditions for Expanding Patients' Access to the Necessary Treatment of Cancer and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorders Sustained as a Result of War", according to the registration card of bill 7457.

According to the law, conditions are created for the legal limited circulation and use of cannabis, its resin, extracts and tinctures for medical, industrial, scientific and technical purposes.

The law will come into force six months after its publication.

On 21 December 2023, the Ukrainian parliament passed the bill on the legalisation of medical cannabis No. 7457 in the second reading.

According to the bill, the production of medicines will be strictly controlled at all stages. Only legal entities that obtain the appropriate licence and GMP certificate will be able to grow cannabis under round-the-clock video surveillance with access for the National Police. Each plant will be individually coded to track the movement of plants to the patient.

Medicinal cannabis-based drugs will be available only with an electronic prescription.
