Russia has carried out 1068 chemical attacks since the beginning of the large-scale war, the public relations department of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has said.
Russia uses irritant substances with tear gas effect, which contain toxic chemical components prohibited for warfare (hostilities) by Article 1, paragraph 5, of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
In February 2024 alone, 250 cases of chemical attacks were recorded. Among them 244 cases of the use of CW agents, one case of gas and five cases of the use of other chemical munitions.
Radiation, chemical and bacteriological intelligence units take samples of soil, vegetation and munitions debris and send them for analysis.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings, documented cases of the use of hazardous chemicals are submitted to the investigative authorities for investigation.
