The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded the executions of 32 Ukrainian prisoners of war by the occupiers from 1 December 2023 to 29 February 2024. This is stated in the report of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.

It is noted that these 32 executions were documented in 12 separate cases. This is significantly more than in any previous period. The Mission conducted independent verification in three of these cases.

The UN Mission's experts interviewed 60 Ukrainian servicemen recently released from Russian captivity. Thus, the experts found that most of these prisoners had been sexually abused.

The head of the UN Mission, Danielle Belle, said that in almost every interview, respondents spoke about the torture of prisoners by Russian military and officials. The Russians use beatings, electric shocks, force them to stay in an uncomfortable position for a long time, threaten them with execution or imitate it.

"Most of the prisoners of war also mentioned suffering from the inability to communicate with their families, as well as the lack of satisfactory food and medical care," added Danielle Belle.

The report also provides information on the violence of the occupying Russian administration against residents of the TOT of Ukraine. This includes the killing of civilians, arbitrary detention and restrictions on freedom of expression.

In particular, over three months, 429 civilians were killed and 1,374 others were injured in war-related violence.

In addition, a significant intensification of Russian shelling from late December to January led to a sharp increase in civilian casualties in areas far from the front line.
