In an interview with The Economist on 2 May this year, French President Emmanuel Macron allowed the deployment of troops to Ukraine in the event of a Russian breakthrough.
‘If the Russians broke through the front line, if there was a Ukrainian request - which there is not today - we would legitimately ask ourselves this question (of sending troops to Ukraine - ed.),’ Macron said.
In the interview, Macron also noted that his strategic goal: Russia cannot win in Ukraine.
‘If Russia wins in Ukraine, there will be no security in Europe. Who can pretend that Russia will stop there?’ the French president asked.
