One of the Ukrainian oligarchs has been served with a notice of suspicion of organising the contract killing of a law firm director. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office and press service of Interior Ministry.
"Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office, a well-known businessman suspected of legalising fraudulently obtained property was served a notice of suspicion of committing another crime related to the organisation of a contract killing (Part 4 of Article 27, Part 2 of Article 15, paragraphs 11, 12, Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement said.
The prosecutor's office did not name the suspect, but it is clear that it is Ihor Kolomoyskyy.
"According to the investigation, the suspect, acting on motives of personal revenge, ordered the murder of the director of a law firm for failing to comply with the requirements to cancel and invalidate the decisions of the general meeting of shareholders of an open joint-stock company," the prosecutor's office said.
To organise the plan, the suspect involved members of a gang that "specialised" in committing serious and especially serious crimes, including physical violence against competitors.
The gang members attacked the director of a law firm, punching and stabbing him in the vital organs.
"At the same time, this crime was not brought to an end for reasons that did not depend on the will of the gang members," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs added that in August 2003 in the centre of Feodosia, four men severely beat and stabbed a lawyer. Doctors managed to save the victim's life. Law enforcement officers then detained the perpetrators of the contract killing. Now, the police have established indisputable evidence confirming the identity of the ordering party.
Currently, prosecutors and investigators are carrying out urgent investigative and procedural actions aimed at exposing all persons involved in the crime.
The suspected businessman is in custody.
