Ukraine will have the right to use F-16s provided by Belgium only on Ukrainian territory. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said this at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The rules for the use of fighter jets are set out in the security agreement signed today in Brussels. The agreement only covers use within Ukraine.
"Everything that is included in our agreement is clearly written. The Ukrainian Armed Forces will be able to use them on Ukrainian territory," he said.
De Croo added that Belgium is committed to delivering several aircraft this year, and other countries will do the same.
- Belgium promised to provide Ukraine with 30 F-16 fighter jets by 2028. The first deliveries are due to start this year.
- Ukraine's need for air defence remains very acute. Yesterday, during a visit to Spain, with which Ukraine has also signed a security agreement, the Ukrainian president called for Patriot to be given to Ukraine to shoot down enemy aircraft.
