The British government has posted on its website the country's key objectives for the upcoming G7 summit in Italy. A new support package for Ukraine will be announced on the sidelines of the event.

It will include 242 million pounds (about $309 million) to support Ukraine's urgent humanitarian, energy and stabilisation needs and should "lay the groundwork for long-term economic and social recovery and reconstruction".

According to the government, this funding "demonstrates the UK's international solidarity with Ukraine and flexibility in responding to the needs arising from Russian aggression".

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's priority during the summit will be to work on using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine. It is noted that the UK was the first country to legislate for the sanctions regime to remain in place until Russia pays for the war it started.
