Ukraine understands that there will come a time when it will have to talk to Russia. But the country's position is very clear: we will not allow the aggressor to speak the language of ultimatums.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on the sidelines of the second day of the Global Peace Summit, an LB.ua correspondent reports. The Minister stressed that Russia is currently speaking the language of ultimatums.

"Every country can express its position here. We hear everyone. This is not the kind of event that Russia likes: to gather everyone together and have them all speak in lockstep with the Russian Federation. It is through such a frank dialogue that we can come to the right decisions," the Foreign Minister said.

Dmytro Kuleba added that Putin's ultimatum "did not arouse any appetite at the summit". According to him, Russian intelligence told the Kremlin that the summit was going to be successful, so Moscow decided to "interrupt" the event with information.

"They used a political nuclear weapon in the person of Putin. He had to personally try to disrupt our summit. It failed, so his proposals cannot be taken seriously. Two fundamental mistakes: the language of ultimatums. And the second is what kind of a demand is it that a sovereign country should leave its own sovereign territory," said Kuleba.

  • Before the Global Peace Summit, Vladimir Putin issued another ultimatum to Ukraine and its allies. He believes that in order to negotiate with Russia, Ukrainians must give up the occupied Regions and Crimea and refuse to join NATO. And other countries must lift sanctions. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called these demands absurd.
  • Russia is not present at this summit - its participation was not foreseen from the very beginning. However, Russia's representatives may be present at the second summit to present a peace plan agreed by a large number of countries.
