The funeral of linguist Iryna Farion is taking place in the Garrison Church in Lviv, the city council has reported.

At around 15:00, the funeral ceremony will take place on Rynok Square and then people will go through Pekarska Street to Lychakiv Cemetery.

The BBC reports that thousands of people have come to say goodbye to the former MP, gathering near the church in the city centre.

The queues are constantly growing, and police patrols have been stepped up on the streets, as there are fears that there may be provocations at the funeral.

The mayor's office warned that traffic along the convoy's route would be blocked in the city, including public transport, due to the funeral.
