In 2022, 840,000 Ukrainians were registered in Turkey. Now they number 24,000, said Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bondar during a discussion as part of the New Country project ‘Justice as a Key Tool for State Development’. Most people returned to Ukraine, some went to European countries.

According to him, there are 22 Ukrainian communities in the country that are working to help their country. The ambassador believes that Ukrainians abroad should be actively involved in public events.

‘The war has become a mobilising factor, not a divisive one,’ the diplomat said.

According to the ambassador, there are about 20 million Ukrainians in the diaspora worldwide. They need to be ‘attracted’ to Ukraine, he believes, and the law on multiple citizenship can help.

Bondar believes that Ukrainians abroad should be involved in various activities to counter Russian propaganda.

‘We have now organised an open day at the embassy. For the first time, the embassy has become a gathering place, not a place to receive consular services,’ he said.
