The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a resolution of the Ministry of Defence, according to which military units have the right to independently mobilise reservists and persons liable for military service who voluntarily wish to serve during mobilisation.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defence.

From now on, persons liable for military service and volunteer reservists can choose a military unit for service without applying to territorial recruitment and social support centres.

Commanders of military units are given the following powers

  • issue referrals to the military medical commission to determine fitness for service;
  • to man combat units with volunteers willing to serve under conscription during mobilisation.

The list of military units whose commanders will be able to conscript volunteers will be determined by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

‘Today we have made an important step in the defence of our country. Combat brigades have received a new tool that will allow them to conduct high-quality recruitment, which results in targeted recruitment of volunteers. From now on, commanders of military units can personally select soldiers without the involvement of the Territorial recruiting centre (TRC), taking into account their skills, experience and aspirations. For every Ukrainian, this is a chance to find their place in the ranks of the defenders, where their skills will be of the greatest benefit. I am grateful to the government for supporting this initiative and I am convinced that this system will help us to counter Russian aggression even more effectively by combining the patriotic motivation of our defenders with the urgent needs of the frontline. Together, we are making our army stronger!’ commented Defence Minister Rustem Umerov on the government's decision.
