Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Russian military has shot at least 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war on the battlefield.
This was reported by Yuriy Belousov, Head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in the Context of Armed Conflict of the Prosecutor General's Office, in an interview with Censor.net.
According to Belousov, the number of executions of Ukrainian prisoners of war began to increase significantly at the end of last year. Before that, the facts of torture prevailed.
He stressed that the physical destruction of Ukrainian military in captivity, including through executions, torture and terrible conditions of detention, indicates elements of genocide.
Ukraine is collecting evidence of the aggressor's crimes from all possible sources. These include data from our military, intelligence, and information from interrogations of Russian prisoners of war. Despite the complexity of investigating cases caused by the impossibility of access to crime scenes, bodies and forensic examinations, there are real war criminals being sentenced.
Belousov added that in the future, not only the perpetrators, but also the entire vertical of organisers of such crimes will be brought to justice: those who incited, gave orders and failed to respond to the crimes.
