As of the beginning of October 2024, despite all the difficult circumstances, the majority of Ukrainians - 58% - opposed any territorial concessions for the sake of peace, according to a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.
At the same time, 32% are ready for territorial concessions. Another 10% have not decided.
Thus, the share of those who are against territorial concessions has decreased from 82% to 58% (-24%) from May 2022 to October 2024.
The graph below shows the data by region of residence of the respondents. It is worth paying attention to the dynamics since May 2024. The situation has not actually changed in the West and in the Centre (where the mood is almost identical to the national one - 59-60% are categorically against any concessions, and 31-32% are ready for some concessions).
In the South of Ukraine, the number of those who are categorically against any concessions has slightly increased (from 46% to 56%, mainly due to a smaller share of those who have not decided on their opinions). At the same time, the share of those who are generally ready for some concessions has not changed (36% in May and 33% now).
In the East, given the relatively small number of respondents, the difference is formally within the margin of error, although at the trend level, we can talk about an increase in the share of those who are generally ready for certain concessions (from 33% to 40%). At the same time, in the East, 50% of respondents are categorically against territorial concessions.
It is noted that only 4-7% of Ukrainians consider territorial concessions to be easy to accept.
