The US State Department has confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are allowed to attack targets in Russia with Western missiles. This was stated by Assistant Secretary of State Brian Nichols in an interview with the Brazilian newspaper O Globo on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
"The weapons that President Biden has authorised Ukraine to use will give it a greater ability to defend itself and hopefully allow the Russian Federation to understand that the use of force to seize Ukrainian territory will not be successful, and perhaps it will begin to engage in peace talks or, even better, simply withdraw from Ukrainian territory," Nichols said.
He added that it is Russia that fully controls whether this "conflict" will continue.
- The day before, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said that the US had allowed the use of its weapons up to 300 kilometres into Russian territory.
- Today, Ukrainian media reported that Ukraine has launched its first ATACMS missile on Russian territory. The target was successfully hit in the Bryansk region.
- On Tuesday night, the Ukrainian Defence Forces struck the arsenal of the 1046th logistics centre near the city of Karachev in Russia's Bryansk Region. As of 02.30 a.m., 12 explosions and detonations were recorded in the target area. The General Staff added that the destruction of Russian ammunition depots will continue.
- Already today, Russia has updated its nuclear doctrine and will now consider non-nuclear strikes as a reason for a nuclear attack.
