Ukraine is strengthening its missile capabilities through international partnerships and domestic innovation, Defence Minister Rustem Umerov wrote in a blog post on LB.ua. By developing its own missile production, Ukraine is integrating into the European defence industry and localising foreign technologies.
Umerov highlighted two key joint projects:
- Italy: Ukrainian manufacturers are participating in efforts to expand Italy’s production capacities.
- Belgium: Collaboration focuses on producing anti-aircraft systems and missiles at Ukrainian facilities.
These partnerships provide Ukraine with access to advanced technologies while modernising its defence industry.
“In modern warfare, missiles are crucial for striking deep into the enemy’s rear. While drones are effective, their power is limited, and using foreign missiles often requires coordination with partners. This underscores the strategic importance of Ukraine’s own missile programme,” Umerov explained.
He emphasised that Ukrainian cruise and ballistic missiles will enable the Armed Forces to deliver precise strikes on critical enemy targets independently. This capability not only strengthens Ukraine’s defence but also serves as a powerful deterrent against aggression.
The minister also noted progress in domestic missile production, including the launch of the Ukrainian-made Palyanytsya drone missile and the scaling up of the R-360 cruise missile from the Neptune complex.
