Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two governments regarding collaboration on Ukrainian energy system resilience.
This was stated by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Memorandum provides for the possibility of US assistance totalling up to $825 million.
"The document creates a legal framework for improving the resilience of Ukraine's energy system, including restoring its critical infrastructure, introducing distributed generation, reforming the energy sector and facilitating the post-war transition to a low-carbon, competitive and European-integrated economy," the statement said.
- Earlier, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called for Ukraine to strengthen its air defence to prevent winter from being used as a weapon.
- According to the Ministry of Energy, since October 2022, Russia has carried out more than 1,000 strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure facilities. This year alone, 9 GW of generating capacity was lost due to the strikes.
- During the last two attacks, Russia used more than 200 missiles and the same number of attack drones against Ukraine’s energy system.
- Ukraine is currently implementing blackout schedules following the damage to power facilities during Russia's massive missile and drone attack on 28 November.
