During a visit to Brussels, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on the allies to urgently provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems to strengthen its energy resilience in winter.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
‘Ukraine urgently needs at least 20 additional air defence systems such as Hawk, NASAMS or IRIS-T. This will help avoid blackouts,’ Sybiha said.
The minister showed the original Budapest Memorandum and noted that it is evidence that any long-term security solutions at the expense of Ukraine's security are unacceptable.
‘This day marks the 30th anniversary of this paper. This document, this paper, failed to ensure Ukrainian and transatlantic security. We must avoid repeating such mistakes. In this context, we will discuss the concept of ‘peace through strength’ with our partners,’ the Foreign Minister concluded.
Sibiga has already visited NATO Headquarters and will also take part in a ministerial meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
- On 3-4 December, Sybiha will be in Brussels for meetings with partners from Europe and the United States.
- This morning, ahead of the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement marking the 30th anniversary of the signing of the so-called Budapest Memorandum. The Ministry stressed that Ukraine does not consider alternatives to joining NATO as its only security guarantee. The statement called on partners to invite Ukraine to join now with the prospect of full membership after the war.
- According to Reuters, there were no plans to discuss Ukraine's invitation at this week's meeting of NATO foreign ministers.
