Oleksiy Chernyshov, the head of Naftogaz, has been nominated to head the Ministry of Ukrainian Unity.
This was reported to LB.ua by Yevheniya Kravchuk, a member of the political council of the Servant of the People party.
Chernyshov will also take up the post of Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.
‘There was a meeting of the faction. The decision to ‘recommend’ has already been made. There will be a committee meeting and a resolution on the appointment,’ she said.
Subsequently, the resolution appointing Chernyshov as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity was registered in the Rada.
The idea of creating a ministry of unity was proposed by the Foreign Ministry in the summer and approved by the Presidential Office. The ministry will work with the Ukrainian community abroad.
The ministry is being created to pay special attention to the 7.5 million Ukrainians who have left. The refugee return strategy is divided between the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Reintegration, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and it is not a priority there. A separate ministry should prioritise this topic in reality. There is an intention to engage a team of people who will deal with the strategy of returning Ukrainians on a daily basis, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said in September.
