Germany will provide Ukraine with another sixth IRIS-T air defence system and Sea King helicopters. This was announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to Kyiv.

This is the first bilateral meeting with Scholz in Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted during a briefing. He called the visit symbolic and thanked for the significant support.

Germany has provided Ukraine with the most assistance in protecting its skies. Zelenskyy called it a historic contribution to the protection of life.

‘In December, we will receive the sixth IRIS-T system, as well as launchers for Patriot and Cheetahs,’ Scholz announced.

Ukraine will also receive six Sea King helicopters, air defence systems, howitzers, combat and reconnaissance drones in 2025.

After the United States, Germany is Ukraine's second largest military support partner, with about €28 billion in aid.

Scholz also confirmed that in December Ukraine will receive Patriot launchers and Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft systems.

The chancellor stressed that Ukraine can rely on Germany, which is not going to weaken its support. He also added that Putin wants to stop production and freeze people with his winter energy strikes, and that is why Germany has provided an emergency aid package to rebuild infrastructure. The country will focus on providing air defence.

  • Today, the German Chancellor arrived in Ukraine for his first visit since 2022. In the morning, he announced a new aid package worth €650 million.
  • Scholz's trip to Ukraine came shortly after he spoke on the phone with Vladimir Putin.
  • This winter, Scholz will be fighting to stay in the chancellor's chair. Germany may soon hold elections due to the collapse of the coalition after the chancellor's decision to dismiss the finance minister, who was a representative of the coalition party.
