Ukrainian Defence Minister Rustem Umerov has highlighted the major commitments made by Ukraine’s international partners to support its defence efforts in 2025. He shared these updates on social media, emphasising the progress made through extensive meetings and negotiations held throughout the autumn.
Key commitments for 2025
1. Baltic States: Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will allocate 0.25% of GDP to support Ukraine.
2. United Kingdom: £3 billion annually until 2031.
3. Denmark: €2.2 billion in 2025, part of a €8.7 billion package by 2028 under the “Danish Model 2.0.”
4. European Union: €1.9 billion in early 2025 for ammunition, air defence systems, missiles, and defence industry support.
5. NATO: Up to €500 million under the Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine.
6. Netherlands: €4 billion allocated for 2024-2026.
7. Germany: €4 billion in direct military assistance.
8. Norway: NOK 30 billion ($2.7 billion) in support.
9. United States: $5.5 billion in military aid.
10. Sweden: $2.5 billion annually under a three-year SEK 75 billion ($7.5 billion) framework programme.
Umerov highlighted the formation of the Nordic Group+Ukraine coalition, comprising 12 countries, including Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, and the Baltic States, among others. This coalition aims to bolster Ukraine’s security through joint efforts.
Development of Ukraine’s defence industry
The Defence Minister underlined progress in strengthening Ukraine’s domestic defence capabilities:
- Production of long-range missiles, drones, and 155 mm ammunition.
- Localisation of air defence systems, heavy armoured vehicles, missiles, and artillery production.
- Development of robotic systems, electronic warfare systems, and radars.
Effective Use of Resources
Umerov praised the “Danish Model” for integrating Ukrainian products into defence procurement, fostering investment in Ukraine’s defence sector.
“Ukraine is strengthening its positions on all fronts thanks to the heroism of our soldiers and the unwavering support of our allies,” Umerov stated. He expressed gratitude to Ukraine’s partners for their commitment to shared values, reaffirming the goal of achieving a just peace and securing victory over Russian aggression.
