Ministry of Defence: Russian army suffered record losses in November

The Russian army experienced its highest losses in manpower since the start of its large-scale invasion of Ukraine, with significant losses of military equipment also reported.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, in November, the Russian forces lost 45,720 soldiers, marking the largest irreversible and sanitary losses to date.

“This number equals the strength of more than three motorised infantry divisions of the Russian army. On one particular day, Ukrainian forces killed 2,030 enemy soldiers—the highest daily toll since 24 February 2022,” the ministry stated.

Russian equipment losses were similarly devastating. In November, Ukrainian forces destroyed 307 Russian tanks, the highest monthly figure this autumn. By comparison, 291 tanks were destroyed in September and 279 in October.

“With 31 vehicles typically in a Russian tank battalion, this means nearly 10 tank battalions were wiped out last month. The estimated cost of these losses is approximately $450 million,” the ministry highlighted.

In total, Ukrainian Defence Forces destroyed 899 armoured combat vehicles in November—equivalent to nearly four motorised infantry divisions—valued at over $500 million.

Additional Russian losses included 884 artillery systems, worth about $700 million.

“In total, Russian equipment and weaponry losses in November 2024 are valued at more than $3 billion. This surpasses the figures recorded in September and October, showing that the Kremlin continues to pour enormous resources into sustaining its war efforts,” the Ministry of Defence emphasised.
