On 11 December, EU ambassadors agreed on the 15th package of sanctions in response to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

This was announced by the Hungarian presidency.

The new restrictions increase the number of individuals and entities on the existing sanctions list and target firms in Russia and third countries that indirectly contribute to Russia's military and technological advancement by circumventing export restrictions.

The new sanctions also restrict the activities of additional third-country vessels that act to facilitate or support political actions in support of Russia's actions against Ukraine.

  • Last week, Politico reported that Lithuania and Latvia were the two countries that prevented the approval of the 15th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
  • They blocked the agreement because it provided for the continuation of the permission for some European companies to continue working with Russians.
