Experts are closely monitoring the growth of Russia's military potential. According to their estimates, in 2029-2030, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be able to reform his armed forces and will theoretically be ready to attack other countries.
This was stated by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who is on a visit to Lithuania, Delfi reports.
Pistorius stressed that we need to be ready for this time.
‘All the military experts who are watching Russia are following the events in Russia very closely. The military industry is very developed there, with many tanks and aircraft being produced. This means that the Russian army is growing. By 2026, it will increase to 1.5 million soldiers. We are watching this very closely and with concern. Experts also believe that in 2029-2030, Putin may reform his armed forces to create the appropriate conditions for a possible (theoretical) attack on other countries, including even NATO countries,’ the German minister said.
Pistorius added that it is necessary to ensure ‘our defence capability’ and that ‘this task is certainly worth both time and money’.
Meanwhile, the deployment of a German brigade in Lithuania, which was discussed as early as 2022, continues. According to Pistorius, the number of deployed German soldiers is growing in parallel with the development of infrastructure for the brigade in the country.
