Sweden is to buy Archer self-propelled artillery systems for Ukraine and purchase Arthur counter-battery radars for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The new package of assistance to our country is available on the Swedish government's website.

Sweden will also support the Ukrainian defence industry through the initiative of Denmark and join the artillery coalition of the Contact Group for the Defence of Ukraine.

The total value of the new aid package is approximately SEK 3 billion.

Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson stressed that Ukraine urgently needs artillery systems and ammunition.

The aid package includes:

  • 18 Archer artillery systems from BAE Systems Bofors. Earlier, Sweden has already provided eight such artillery systems to Ukraine.
  • 5 Arthur counter-battery radar systems from Saab. These radars can detect enemy artillery positions, which helps to effectively destroy them. Previously, similar systems have been supplied by the UK and Sweden.
  • financial support for the Ukrainian defence industry through the Danish initiative. The funds can be used to purchase 155mm shells or Bohdan artillery systems.

The Swedish government has indicated that Arthur radars will be delivered to Ukraine in 2025. And the delivery of Archer self-propelled artillery systems is scheduled for 2026.

In addition, Sweden intends to join the UDCG artillery coalition. This initiative is aimed at developing and strengthening Ukraine's artillery capabilities and increasing their compatibility with NATO standards.
