The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyy, has stated that the Defence Forces have managed to stabilise the situation in the Pokrovsk sector and have taken the tactical initiative in certain areas.
“The Pokrovsk direction is one of the most difficult sections of the frontline of the Russian–Ukrainian war. However, thanks to the courage and skilful actions of the Defence Forces soldiers, we managed to stabilise the situation in this operational area in Donetsk Region and sometimes seize the tactical initiative,” he wrote on Telegram.
Syrskyy highlighted the 425th Separate Assault Regiment Skala as one of the units that effectively employs active defence tactics and inflicts losses on the Russian military.
“It is not the first time that Ukraine has regained control over territories captured by the Russian military through the efforts of Skala. It happened in 2022 in Izyum, during the Kharkiv offensive, and this spring near the village of Shevchenko, close to Pokrovsk,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasised.
During a working visit, Syrskyy presented honorary insignia to the servicemen of the 425th Regiment.
“Soldiers, sergeants, officers — you are honourably performing your tasks. Ukraine believes in you, and you can always be relied on,” he said.
- The Pokrovsk direction remains one of the main areas of Russian attacks. It records the highest number of daily assaults. Despite its own claims of an Easter “ceasefire”, Russia has not ceased its offensive in this area.
- At the end of April, Syrskyy reported that Russian forces were attempting to break through the Ukrainian defences in the Pokrovsk direction and reach the administrative border of Dnipropetrovsk Region.
