Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is on the verge of blackout again as a result of Russian shelling, which cut off one of the power lines.

This was reported by the Ministry of Energy.

‘As a result of the enemy shelling, Zaporizhzhya NPP lost power to one of the two external power lines connecting the temporarily occupied ZNPP with the integrated power system of Ukraine,’ the ministry said.

Currently, the plant is supplied with power through only one power line. The external power supply to the plant, which is necessary for its safe operation, is again under threat.

The Ministry of Energy emphasises that in the event of a complete disconnection from the power grid, another blackout could occur at ZNPP, which would pose a serious threat to radiation safety.

‘Due to the Russian strike, one of the power lines connecting the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP to the Ukrainian power grid was again disconnected. As soon as the security situation allows, power engineers will do everything possible to restore power to ZNPP as soon as possible. The de-occupation of the plant is a guarantee of its safe operation,' said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.

  • Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, Zaporizhzhya NPP has already experienced a complete blackout 8 times and has been on the verge of blackout many times.
  • Zaporizhzhya NPP has been occupied by the enemy since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. All this time, the Russians have been threatening the global nuclear safety of Europe. The enemy replaced the plant's staff with Russians. Explosions have been heard repeatedly on the territory of the plant, and there was also a fire.
