Military–industrial sites and airfields targeted in overnight drone attacks across Russian regions

Last night, in a number of Russian regions, drones attacked important military–industrial enterprises and two airfields.

Last night, important enterprises of the military–industrial complex were attacked in Russia, according to the head of the National Security and Defence Council’s Disinformation Counteraction Centre, Andriy Kovalenko, and a number of Russian Telegram channels.

A fibre–optic systems plant in Saransk, a key element of the Russian defence industry in the field of modern military communications, was hit. It specialises in the production of fibre–optic cables and communication systems for the Russian military, including fibre–optic drones.

Kovalenko later added that the fibre–optic systems plant in Saransk was severely damaged in the strike. “Fibre optics is one of the Russians’ advantages at the frontline due to fibre–optic drones. This plant fully supplies the Russian military with fibre optics. Now there is a question of its possible shutdown.”

In Tula, the Design Bureau of Instrumentation JSC, one of the flagships of the Russian military–industrial complex, specialising in the development of modern weapons systems, including anti–tank systems, small arms and combat modules, was attacked. Its products are actively used during the war in Ukraine.

SPLAV, the main developer of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) in Russia, was also under attack. It was here that Grad, Uragan and Smerch systems were created – weapons actively used against Ukrainian cities and at the frontline.

The company has close ties with Rostec and remains one of the priority arms manufacturers for the Russian military.

Two Russian airfields were also hit.

The Shaykovka airfield in Kaluga Region, where Tu–22M3 bombers are based, has missiles – including Kh–22s – stored there.

Kubinka airbase in the Moscow Region, where Su–27 and MiG–29 aircraft are based.
