The Ukrainian Greek community opens a photo exhibition so that the world does not forget the heroic history of Mariupol and its defenders

On 22 May, a photo exhibition Mariupol. Life on the Edge of Apocalypse dedicated to the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, the largest centre of Greek culture in Ukraine, which suffered catastrophic damage during the Russian siege. The Union of Greeks of Ukraine in Greece wrote about it on its Facebook page.

The photo exhibition will feature 50 works by famous Mariupol photographers: Viktor Dedov (deceased), Olena Suhak, Alina Komarova, Serhiy Makarov, Anzhela Bilodid, Lev Sandalov and Maksym Sahaydak (deceased). Their photographs reflect the various stages of life in the Ukrainian city with Greek roots before the war and its barbaric destruction by the Russian army.

According to the organisers and partners of the exhibition, the aim of this event is to draw attention to Mariupol and its history, its inhabitants, heroic defenders and the unique Greek-Ukrainian culture that is now under threat of extinction. The organisers call on the international community to keep the memory alive and keep talking about the city.

The project will open in the Museum of Culture of Constantinople (Καστριτσειο Μουσείο Πολιτισμού Κωνσταντινούπολης) at: Λεωφ. Καποδιστρίου 17, Φιλοθέη 152 37. It will run until 6 June and will be open every Monday and Friday from 17:30 to 20:30, as well as on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 13:00.
