In Freiburg, the New Year was celebrated with Ukrainian music. As part of the festive concert Everything Flows — Between the Vltava and the Beautiful Blue Danube, the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra presented works from the Anthology of Ukrainian Symphonic Miniatures.

The evening featured Levko Kolodub’s Troyisti Musyky, Fedir Yakimenko’s Gondolier’s Dream, and Anatoliy Kos-Anatolskyy’s Arkan. The programme also included Valentyn Sylvestrov’s Silent Music and Bohdana Frolak’s composition Let There Be Light.

Ukrainian works fitted organically into the broader European musical context alongside compositions by Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, Johannes Brahms, and Johann Strauss. Ukrainian music was presented as an integral part of the European cultural map — modern, diverse, and recognisable.

At the conductor’s podium was Artem Longinov, a young Ukrainian conductor, principal conductor and deputy chief music director of Theater Freiburg. The maestro consistently includes Ukrainian works in symphonic and opera programmes in Germany and Switzerland, and is also the founder and artistic director of the Ukraina München chamber orchestra.
