On the eve of the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a special edition of the poetic and musical project Voices of Dignity will take place in Denmark. The event is organised by the Ukrainian House in Denmark, the Danish Cultural Institute, and Det Ny Teater.
Launched in February 2024, Voices of Dignity has evolved into a living cultural dialogue between Ukrainian literature and European audiences. During the performance, Ukrainian authors read their texts in the original language, while well-known Danish actors perform the same works in Danish. Music is also an integral part of the event.
In 2026, the programme will run under the title Ukrainian Voices – Stories of Freedom, offering a literary journey through Ukrainian thought and resistance — from Lesya Ukrayinka and the writers of the Executed Renaissance, through the dissident movement of the 1960s, to contemporary authors whose texts have been shaped by war. The event will feature works by Lesya Ukrayinka, Mykola Khvylyovyy, Vasyl Stus, Viktoriya Amelina, Iryna Tsilyk, Artur Dron, Valeriy Puzik, and others.
The keynote speaker will be human rights defender and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviychuk.
Ukrainian poetry will be performed in Danish by renowned actors Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Ellen Hillingsø, Christine Albeck Børge, and Bodil Jørgensen.
The event will take place on 22 February 2026.
