Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf arrived in Ukraine today. He is in Lviv, where he has already met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Sweden Herald reports.
This is the Swedish monarch’s first visit to Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard.
This is not the first meeting between Carl XVI Gustaf and the Ukrainian president. Zelenskyy visited Sweden in 2024, and they also met during the UN’s 80th anniversary events in New York in the autumn.
The King of Sweden has consistently supported Ukraine. In his Christmas address, he said that “the perseverance and determination of the Ukrainian people to defend their country give us hope that Ukraine’s freedom and sovereignty will be respected.”
The visit began with a tribute to fallen defenders.
