Explosions were heard in the centre of Lviv last night, leaving one person dead and several injured, according to the National Police. No air raid alert was declared in the city or the Region.

Law enforcement officials emphasised that the explosions resulted in “dead and injured law enforcement officers”.

The explosions occurred after patrol police officers arrived at the scene.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy described the explosions in the city as a terrorist attack.

According to preliminary information, a female police officer was killed in the attack.

As of 11.00 a.m., 25 people are known to have been injured as a result of the terrorist attack. Eleven people have been hospitalised. Six law enforcement officers are in a serious condition.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported the arrest of a suspect in connection with the terrorist attack in Lviv. The investigation is ongoing.

“Today, at around 00.30, the 102 emergency line received a report of a break-in at a shop on Danylyshyna Street. After patrol police arrived at the scene, an explosion occurred. Later, when a second crew arrived, another explosion followed,” the police said.

It has been preliminarily established that improvised explosive devices detonated. A 23-year-old policewoman was killed in the explosions. A patrol police car and a civilian vehicle were damaged.

The Patrol Police of the Lviv Region reported that Police Officer Viktoriya Shpylka was killed during the night-time terrorist attack in Lviv.

“She was originally from Volyn and later moved to Kherson with her parents. She chose a career in public service, graduating from Lviv State University of Internal Affairs and joining the patrol police — first in Kherson, then in Lviv from 2023.

Her colleagues remember her as sensitive, bright and sincere. She knew how to offer support, listen and find a kind word even on the hardest of days. She never complained, but smiled and went to work because she knew that people were waiting for her. Faithful to her oath. Fair. With a deep sense of duty,” the statement said.
