The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the Defence Forces, carried out successful strikes on the Slavneft–YANOS oil refinery in Russia’s Yaroslavl, as well as on Russian FSB Border Guard vessels in temporarily occupied Kerch.
According to the SBU, the refinery is located more than 700 kilometres from Ukraine’s state border.
The Yaroslavl refinery is among Russia’s five largest oil-processing enterprises, with a capacity of nearly 15 million tonnes of oil per year. The plant supplies petrol, diesel and aviation kerosene to Russia’s central regions. As a result of a Ukrainian drone attack, at least six explosions were heard on the site, sparking fires in four different parts of the plant.
Preliminary data indicate the strike damaged four crude-oil tanks, leading to a spill and the ignition of two containers. In addition, flames engulfed the damaged ELOU-1 and AVT-3 processing units.
At the same time, drones attacked the port area in Kerch. As a result, two Svetlyak-class patrol ships of the Russian FSB Border Guard — Balaklava and Kerch — were damaged.
- Earlier that morning, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces had struck targets more than 1,300 kilometres from the front line. In particular, the Bashneft-Novoyl refinery in Bashkortostan was hit, as well as the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl Region.
