‘Words Like a Patriot PAC-3 Launch’: Zelenskyy Thanks Trump for Independence Day Greetings

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked US President Donald Trump for his congratulations on the 35th anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s independence.

Zelenskyy quoted the White House chief’s words on the social network X.

The Ukrainian President said he had received “warm and inspiring” greetings from Trump. The message emphasised the strength of relations between the United States and Ukraine, which have only deepened since independence was gained. Trump also noted Ukrainians’ resilience and their courage in the face of Russian aggression. 

He said the United States admires the steadfastness of the Ukrainian people, honours their sacrifices, and believes in Ukraine’s future as a sovereign and prosperous state.

“Let us seize this moment to bring the conflict to an end and build a strong, lasting peace that will unlock Ukraine’s enormous potential for generations to come,” the President of the United States wrote.

Zelenskyy commented on Trump’s words and stressed that they point to hope for peace.

“These words, like the sound of a Patriot PAC-3 launch, lift our spirits and give hope that lives can be protected from Russia’s savage attacks and that a dignified peace can be achieved,” Zelenskyy said.

What Came Before

On the eve of the anniversary, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, on behalf of the United States, congratulated the people of Ukraine on the 35th anniversary of Independence. 

The head of the State Department noted that the United States is committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and continues to work to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war through negotiations, “the result of which will be a lasting and durable peace”. Rubio reaffirmed long-term co-operation between Washington and Kyiv.
