The Hungarian government has for the first time officially described Russia as a threat to the country, to Europe as a whole and to the global order.
This is stated in government directives for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, signed by Prime Minister Péter Magyar. The document was published in the official government gazette Magyar Közlöny, Radio Liberty reports.
Budapest condemns Russia’s military aggression, supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders, and acknowledges Kyiv’s right to self-defence. The directives stress that Russia’s actions are placing the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia in serious danger. For this reason, Hungary supports any efforts to begin negotiations that would ensure a sustainable peace and long-term security guarantees.
In addition, the document contains instructions for the Hungarian delegation on its approach to migration and the conflicts in Gaza, Iran and Lebanon.
Earlier, Hungary’s Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi said the country is closing the door on Russia and restoring the trust of its allies, as Russian intelligence had tried to infiltrate the country unnoticed.
