Today, 28 August, it emerged that a Russian drone struck a warehouse containing books belonging to several publishers.
This was reported by the founder of the Readeat bookshop chain Dmytro Feliksov.
“So far, it is known that a Shahed hit the warehouse directly, where there were books from Readeat Book.ua and a number of publishers. There will be no order dispatches today,” his message said.
The Uroboros publishing house confirmed the destruction of the books.
“Our books at our partners Readeat and Book.ua are, evidently, gone…,” they wrote on Telegram.
- This is not the first time Russians have waged war on books. For example, recently, as a result of a Russian attack on Kyiv, a large-scale fire broke out on the grounds of the Petrivka book market. The blaze destroyed part of the book pavilions.
- During the Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of 5 August, warehouses belonging to the BookChef publishing house came under fire. The strike hit a backup warehouse that had recently resumed operations after the main warehouse was destroyed.
- Over the course of an incomplete July, Russian attacks destroyed more than 1.5 million Ukrainian books.
